Too many Irons chiefs – not enough Irons Indians
Sean Whetstone worries the Hammers have too many chiefs and not enough Indians
Tim Steidten starts in his new role as West Ham’s technical director today, but who will have the final say on transfers?
Steidten reportedly left Bayer Leverkusen after falling out with Leverkusen director of Sport Simon Rolfes after his relationship with his counterpart deteriorated after Rudi Völler, Leverkusen’s Sporting managing director, stepped down in the summer of 2022.
Steidten is quoted at the time as saying he wanted a new project where he had more say over decisions.
Manager David Moyes has been promised a say over who comes in also and is thought to have the final right of veto.
Director of Sport Mark Noble has also been promised a say over transfers in his role, although hopefully, Steidten will be acting as a mentor to Nobes.
Add to the mix Hammers chairman David Sullivan and the West Ham board, who want a greater say this summer in where the money is spent and how!
The old proverb ‘Too many chiefs and not enough Indians’ seems the right phrase to use here.
Let’s hope they can all work together for the common good of the club and leave their egos at the door.
