The 24-year-old joined the Hammers from Swansea City for around £14 million in the summer transfer window (Wales Online).
However, Downes was criminally underused by David Moyes last season.
And it seems as though the ex-Swansea City midfielder could be moved on from his boyhood club this summer…
Strange Flynn Downes claim made as West Ham United summer transfer window business begins to kick off
The Athletic reckon that the 24-year-old could leave the Hammers this summer.
I really don’t understand this one – Downes didn’t put a foot wrong whenever he was handed a chance by Moyes last season.
The former Swansea ace wasn’t given a regular run of games by the Scot – something that he was more than deserving of in my opinion.
And with Declan Rice set to leave to join Arsenal, West Ham selling Flynn Downes in the same summer would make no sense whatsoever.
The tenacious tacking midfielder is at an age where he really needs to be playing regularly, if he wants to keep improving.
And if he doesn’t have the chance to do that with the Hammers, a summer exit from the London Stadium might just be the best thing for him.
I’m just hoping that that doesn’t happen.
