Neymar and West Ham
I know this is traditionally the “silly season” but there has been a report that Neymar is now available and we should be looking at him.
We do have some “previous” as the sainted Ray Winstone would say, as back in 2010 we offered a then Irons record fee of 16million offer to sign the 18-year-old Neymar.
He was an extremely hot property whilst playing for Santos and it seemed like half the clubs in Europe wanted a piece of him. PSG went to the front of the queue with a whopping £16 million bid (bear in mind this was 2010)
But due to shenanigans involving an investment company that owned half of Neymar ( shades of the Tevez deal there!) they refused to sell at market value and wanted a lot, lot more.
So what would the mighty Irons do? I know, lets sign the 31-year-old forward Frederic Piquionne from Lyon for £1m and why not take striker Victor Obinna on loan from Inter Milan . The sum result of this scintillating piece of transfer business was a combined 18 goals in nearly one hundred appearances !.
The rest is history, as Neymar eventually signed for Barcelona and became one of the best players in the world.
I doubt if the poor fellow had that many sleepless nights about about swapping the Boleyn ground for the Nou Camp.
Yes, we all know that we are going to receive over £100 million for the sale of Declan Rice
At 31 years of age and costing well over £60 million, we would be better off spending our money elsewhere
Please don`t even think about it Mr Steidten !
