Scamacca and Downes…answers required
Following our magnificent Europa Conference League win, I must say I was very pleased for David Moyes.
But recent events are making me nervous again
I refer to Messrs Scamacca and Downes
For one reason or another our supremo failed to get the best out of the 6ft 5in striker who clearly didn’t suit the Scot’s counter-attacking system. Much has been said and written about the Moyes’ reluctance to change his system as games progressed. Indeed the “dithering Dave” moniker was perhaps justly earned.
But it is obvious that Scamacca is an excellent striker who just needs players operating closer to him , in order for him to flourish. Last season, before his injury he looked lost up front on his own – he is a totally different player to Antonio.
There is much speculation that Harvey Barnes will be coming to West Ham and if so, we will then see the Scamacca 2.0 version. As Barnes playing in his preferred position and Jarrod Bowen tucking in from the right-hand flank, will allow the Italian far more opportunities and will also play to his strengths.
Scamacca is a fine player but we have been using him incorrectly. It will be crying shame if the unsettled £35m Italian decides to leave on loan back to Italy.
All it needs is for Mr Moyes to be more flexible with his system and our Italian could have a fine future with the Irons.
Now onto Flynn Downes.
He is another player being linked to the exit door. Not the most stylish of players I admit, but fair play to him , he didn’t put a foot wrong whenever he was handed a chance last season.
The former Swansea player wasn’t given a regular run of games by the Moyes – who would always stick to his favourites. The strong tackling midfielder is at an age where he really needs to be playing regularly, if he wants to keep improving.
West Ham selling Flynn Downes in the summer would make no sense whatsoever.
Give the lad a chance.
