Paul Merson has slammed moaning fans as he delivers an emphatic verdict on the £105m Declan Rice move from West Ham to Arsenal.
After months of speculation and a brief but very public battle with Man City, Declan Rice finally looks set to join Arsenal from West Ham.
The Gunners will pay a British record £105m for the Hammers captain in a move that many West Ham fans find hard to stomach.
While there is no great rivalry between West Ham and Arsenal, Hammers supporters will concede they would have found it much more palatable had Rice joined Manchester City or a foreign giant.
Rice said he wanted Champions League football and to compete for silverware. And many West Ham fans simply don’t believe Arsenal offer any guarantees on that front beyond at least six matches in Europe’s top tier competition next season.
There has always been much debate over West Ham’s valuation of Rice and whether he is “worth” the money Arsenal are about to pay.
Not least from the fanbase of the club Rice is about to join.
Some Arsenal supporters have questioned the club’s decision to spend a record fee on West Ham’s talisman.
But one pundit has told them to pipe down and enjoy watching the midfielder take the team to the next level.
Paul Merson has slammed moaning fans as he delivers an emphatic verdict on the £105m Rice move from West Ham to Arsenal.
Speaking on Twitter, Arsenal legend Merson did not hold back with his opinion.
“I hear a lot of Arsenal fans complaining about it being a lot of money,” Merson said.
“If they don’t sign him they still won’t take money off their season tickets so it makes no difference!
“He will take Arsenal to the next level!! Great buy.”
Merson makes some salient points. And arrogant Arsenal fans questioning Rice’s worth will soon realise he is their best player by a country mile.
Some West Ham fans won’t be happy with Rice, though, after a Sky Sports reporter’s new Arsenal move claim.
But whatever the truth behind the scenes over this deal, West Ham must move on now and ensure they absolutely nail it in the transfer window when signing his replacements.
