Dharmesh Sheth has delivered a monster West Ham transfer update on seven targets including an exciting Edson Alvarez twist.
As West Ham’s Premier League rivals make statement signings, the Hammers seem to be stuck in the mud waiting on the Declan Rice money to arrive.
David Moyes is yet to make any signings in the summer transfer window with another significant rebuild on the cards.
And West Ham are one of just four Premier League clubs yet to sign a player this summer along with Everton, Fulham and Sheffield United.
That could be about to change very soon, though, if an update from a Sky Sports transfer reporter is anything to go by.
West Ham will soon be recipients of a British record £105m for Rice from Arsenal.
And work is going on between Moyes and new technical director Tim Steidten in identifying and signing a host of players with the money.
Dharmesh Sheth has delivered a monster West Ham transfer update on seven targets including an exciting Edson Alvarez twist.
Speaking on Sky Sports News on Thursday night, Sheth discussed West Ham’s interest in Denis Zakaria, Harvey Barnes, James Ward-Prowse, Alex Scott, Perr Schuurs, Jonathan Tah and Alvarez.
And Sheth gave great encouragement over a potential deal for Mexico defensive midfield star Alvarez, confirming a move to Borussia Dortmund now looks unlikely and the Hammers are trying to resurrect their deal.
“We’re told that West Ham are in talks with Juventus over the signing of the midfielder Denis Zakaria,” Sheth said.
“The move is understood to be driven by West Ham’s new technical director Tim Steidten. Now he tried to sign him when he was the sporting director at Bayer Leverkusen when Zakaria was at Borussia Monchengladbach…
“It is thought Juventus would want a permanent deal or at least a loan with an obligation to buy at the end of it… But no surprise that West Ham are in for Zakaria and talks are ongoing…
“Other midfielders West Ham are looking at, James Ward-Prowse, they’ve tried to sign him before as well. Bristol City’s Alex Scott – there have been talks over him and the Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez.
“There was interest in him at the beginning of the window and for all the money it looked like he was going to go to Borussia Dortmund. But that one seems to have stalled and it just seems that West Ham could find a way to try and resurrect that deal.
“I think they’ll continue their attempts to try and sign Harvey Barnes but I think West Ham are very well aware that there’s going to be a lot of interest from other clubs in other clubs and dare I say it clubs that can offer Champions League football. And I think Leicester City will be quite stubborn with the asking price even though they’ve been relegated.
“West Ham are in the market for a central defender. Jonathan Tah would be an interesting one. He plays for Bayer Leverkusen, he’s one of a number that West Ham are looking at. He actually signed a contract extension in 2021 when the sporting co-ordinator was Tim Steidten – the current technical director at West Ham. His current deal is up in 2025 so if he’s not going to renew then maybe this would be the optimum time to get the maximum transfer fee for a player of his calibre.
“And just one last one, Sky Italy’s Gianluca Di Marzio reporting West Ham are showing an interest in Torino defender Perr Schuurs. His contract is up in 2026 with an option of a further year so Torino under no real pressure and would try and get the maximum transfer fee for him.”
Sheth said West Ham do retain interest in an eighth target – Joao Palhinha of Fulham. But it was suggested that deal is a non-starter due to Palhinha having four years left on his contract and the huge discrepancy in valuations between West Ham and the Cottagers.
