With the distraction of the Declan Rice deal over, we really must start cracking on in the transfer market.
We have just over a month before West Ham`s trip to the seaside to play Bournemouth in the curtain raiser to the 2023-24 season and we have yet to make any major signings.
We cannot be left behind whilst other clubs steal a march on us.
It must be frustrating for our supremo, as despite our Europa Conference League triumph, it still does not disguise the fact that we need fresh faces to strengthen our squad.
We could be looking at another 50 game plus season again
Top of the list is of course a new central midfielder or two ,as it most unlikely that we will find another Declan Rice.
As previously commented on CandH, we seem to be linked with any midfielder with two functioning legs and a pulse at the moment. But there is one individual of great interest, the teenage Bristol Rovers prodigy – Alex Scott.
A very talented midfielder, he ranks in the top 11% of all midfielders in the eight competitions most similar to the Championship for progressive carries (2.34 per 90 minutes), as per FBref, and in the top 16% for successful take-ons (1.22). He also has an extremely healthy pass completion percentage.
He also offers versatility for the team as he has played in defensive midfield, central midfield, attacking midfield and on both flanks last season, as per Opta.
Scott may have played all his football in the Championship, yet he is still being valued at £20m by Bristol City as he still has a couple of years left on his contract
He is hardly an unknown quantity now which goes some way in explaining his relatively high valuation, but he is extremely highly thought of and the “Guernsey Grealish” would be a wonderful addition the team.
Go get him Mr Steidten !
