West Ham are stepping up the chase for a Man United star Erik ten Hag rates as a goalscorer but might be forced to sell after a new Scott McTominay claim.
Both West Ham and Manchester United are having to cut their cloth in the summer transfer window this year.
It has been widely reported that – after spending £250m in four windows – West Ham are only spending what they bring in this summer.
And – takeover permitting – Man United are having to also raise money through player sales from their unbalanced squad.
Fortunately for West Ham their main player sale – of Declan Rice to Arsenal – is bringing in a British record £105m.
And David Moyes is keen to spend a chunk of that with Manchester United in replacing the talismanic skipper.
West Ham step up chase for Man United star Erik ten Hag rates as a goalscorer but might be forced to sell after new Scott McTominay claim
West Ham have been linked with a host of players who are on the fringes at Old Trafford from Aaron Wan-Bissaka to Harry Maguire, Anthony Martial and Scott McTominay.
But now West Ham have stepped up the chase for a Man United star Erik ten Hag rates as a goalscorer but might be forced to sell after a new McTominay claim.
Last month we carried reports on Hammers News that Red Devils midfielder McTominay was one of three prime targets for Moyes and West Ham this summer.
The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg, who has strong links inside West Ham, claimed on Friday that the 26-year-old Scotland and Manchester United ace is firmly on the club’s radar.
Rice out, McTominay in at West Ham?
The Sun and other outlets recently claimed McTominay is one of 13 players up for sale as part of a big Man United clearout to raise transfer funds.
Speaking towards the end of last season, Ten Hag praised McTominay’s goalscoring ability and versatility in an interview with MEN.
“He can play in many roles,” Ten Hag noted.
“It’s clear he has scoring capabilities. Also this season for us he’s a really good finisher. But I see him as a midfielder.”
Football Insider is reporting that McTominay wants to leave Man United and reiterated West Ham’s interest at the weekend.
The report also quotes West Ham legend Frank McAvennie claiming he ‘has heard’ his fellow Scot will be leaving Man United and backed him for a move to the London Stadium.
The Daily Mail have claimed Man United will sell McTominay for around £30 million this summer.
