Djed Spence posts three-word message after Tottenham training session in Australia
Djed Spence was among the Tottenham Hotspur players who trained under Ange Postecoglou in Australia at the WACA ground in front of 6,000 fans on Monday. After the session, the right took to his Instagram and posted a photo of himself in training.
He captioned it:
“Back To Business🫡”
The post drew positive replies from his teammates Dane Scarlett and Japhet Tanganga among other stars, such as Rennes’ Jeremy Doku.
According to Football.London, Tottenham coaches Matt Wells and Mile Jedinak were seen working with a back four of Spence, Eric Dier, Joe Rodon and Harvey White with Alfie Whiteman in goal.
What next for Spence?
Four of those five players aren’t regular starters for us. So it could indicate that Spence is among the second-string players.
But of course, this isn’t enough to foresee what the manager has planned for his first season in north London. Spence signed for us from Middlesbrough last summer for a fee of £20million.
That was a big fee to pay for a Championship player. And he struggled big time under Antonio Conte (playing just three minutes of Premier League football), before being loaned out to Stade Rennais for the second half of the season.
Tottenham’s signing of Pedro Porro was done under Conte. But the former Sporting CP and Manchester City full-back is widely seen as our starting right-back.

If the Spaniard was his only competition for minutes, Spence (22) could have been hopeful of his chances — at least more than last season. But Emerson Royal would also be a barrier. But at least the trio have a fresh start under the Greek-Australian coach.
Spurs play West Ham United in a friendly in Australia on Tuesday (18 July). It remains to be seen which right-back gets the nod there. The ones who start such games are usually not pinned starters, but that means they have the opportunity to change that label. Spence would hope to do the same.
