Euro giants Bayern Munich win 27-0 with 13 different scorers but exciting West Ham target Leon Goretzka is frozen out.
The football world scoffed when an outlandish claim was made on Monday that West Ham were interested in signing Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka.
Sky Sports Germany were the first to report that West Ham want Goretzka – who is rated at £43m by Bayern Munich and has fallen out of favour with Thomas Tuchel.
The prospect of West Ham moving to sign the 28-year-old certainly raised eyebrows.
West Ham’s interest was reported elsewhere in the German press today.
The reports made it clear Goretzka has a bleak future at Bayern under Tuchel while claiming the midfielder was not interested in leaving the club.
Just how out of favour was hammered home emphatically on Tuesday night.
Because Euro giants Bayern Munich won 27-0 with 13 different scorers but exciting West Ham target Goretzka was frozen out.
The German title winners were playing ninth tier Rottach-Egern – a side local to their pre-season training base.
But West Ham target Goretzka was only named on the bench in a move Bayern fan accounts claimed proves Tuchel simply does not rate the midfielder.
Bayern showed they could certainly manage without German international Goretzka as they amassed an 18-0 lead by half-time.
A further nine would follow in the second half. But Tuchel was critical of the second half display and Bayern’s fan page called for Goretzka and Sadio Mane to be sold.
To make matters worse, three of the players rivalling Goretzka for a place in midfield – Marcel Sabitzer, Ryan Gravenberch and Konrad Laimer – scored seven goals between them.
Whether the snub will see Goretzka change his mind over a potential move to West Ham remains to be seen.
Meanwhile David Moyes is said to be ‘closing in on’ the signing of Conor Gallagher from Chelsea.
That would not necessarily rule out a move for Goretzka, though. Because the Scot and co-owner David Sullivan have both made it clear they want to sign two midfielders to replace Declan Rice.
Particularly given Manuel Lanzini has also been released by the Hammers.
