There is a huge new slap in the face for Harry Maguire as Man United try a new tactic to push the outcast into a West Ham move.
West Ham have been heavily linked with Manchester United defender Harry Maguire for the best part of a year now.
But speculation has intensified to new levels over the last 48 hours from both West Ham and Man United perspectives.
David Moyes has this weekend declared his ‘full focus’ is now on bringing players in.
And Man United centre-back Maguire is the name making the headlines with reporter Dharmesh Sheth confirming West Ham want to sign him either on loan or in a permanent deal.
No sooner had the Sky Sports man made that announcement regarding Moyes’ intent to test the water for a player Erik ten Hag has made clear can leave Manchester United, than the Red Devils announced they were stripping Maguire of the captaincy at the weekend.
In the wake of that decision the player spoke out publicly in an emotional message.
Reports then claimed Maguire was now ‘considering his options’ and that West Ham ‘lead the chase’ for the England defender.
Hammers boss Moyes was asked about his interest in Maguire while over in Australia but the Scot played his cards close to his chest.
Reports last night claimed Man United have rejected a loan offer from West Ham for the centre-back. The Red Devils want to offload Maguire in a permanent move.
Now there’s been a huge new slap in the face for Maguire as Man United try a new tactic to push the outcast into a West Ham move.
Because Man United have re-signed 35-year-old out of contract defender Jonny Evans on a short-term deal to enable him to play for the club in pre-season.
And there are rumours that could become a one-year deal should Evans prove his fitness on a tour of the US.
The club has made the announcement on the official site this evening.
Ten Hag is certainly doing everything in his power to show Maguire his future lies elsewhere amid the interest from West Ham.
Not only did the Dutchman prefer Luke Shaw over Maguire at centre-back last season, he has stripped him of the captaincy and now signed one of the club’s former players in the same position.
It is a clear indication that Man United are expecting – and hoping – to offload Maguire as soon as possible.
In that regard, Italian transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano claims West Ham ‘hold all the cards’.
