Ange Postecoglou wants Tottenham Hotspur to sign a central defender
Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou wants the club to sign a reinforce the squad with a central defender in the ongoing transfer window.
Spurs have lost Clement Lenglet after his loan from Barcelona ended this summer. On the other hand, the North London side are also open to parting ways with Davinson Sanchez, Joe Rodon and Japhet Tanganga.
Speaking to football.london, Postecoglou acknowledges that Tottenham need to strengthen the centre-back area. The Australian hopes to get deals done soon to bolster the squad.
“Yeah, I think that’s definitely our intention, absolutely. We’ve been working on it for a while and we’ll definitely try to get it done as quickly as possible.
“Some of it I had identified early on. I don’t think it’s any secret about some of the areas we needed to strengthen. The goalkeeper was one and central defence is another.”
As things stand, the North London side have Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven and Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba on their radar. The Lilywhites have held talks wot acquire their services in the coming weeks.
Also, Spurs are close to signing young defender Ashley Phillips from Blackburn Rovers. Tosin Adarabioyo of Fulham is also being eyed by the club.
Tottenham have also expressed interest in Crystal Palace duo Marc Guehi and Joachim Andersen. We are looking to get Lenglet back from Barcelona as well. The French national regularly featured for us in the 2022/23 term.
It remains to be seen who the North London side will end up signing. However, we evidently need to be more solid at the back in the upcoming campaign. Last season, the Lilywhites struggled a lot defensively.
We have been playing with Ben Davies as our centre-back for a few years now. Eric Dier has been inconsistent during his time at Tottenham. Cristian Romero has been the only decent defender at the club over the last few campaigns.
