Aston Villa Sell Marvelous Nakamba to Luton Town
Aston Villa today confirmed the already expected sale of Marvelous Nakamba to Luton Town for an undisclosed fee. The Zimbabwean international midfielder signed a three-year contract with Luton Town, subject to a work permit.
Nakamba fast became a favourite at Kenilworth Road, when he was on loan there last season. Adding steel to their midfield and helping them win their Championship play-off final at Wembley against Coventry City. He scored Luton’s third penalty in their penalty shootout victory.
“I’m very excited to be back home at Luton to continue the journey,” said the 29-year-old midfielder. “Over the summer the manager has been saying ‘you need to be here!’ and I’m so happy, so excited to now be back and ready for the season.”
Marvelous Glue
Luton Town manager Rob Edwards is certainly a big fan of Marvelous Nakamba and what he brings to the Hatters.
“As a footballer, he was the glue that knitted us together,” said Edwards. “He allowed everyone to do their jobs. There were quotes out there last season saying it was like having three of him on the pitch at times – he covered every blade of grass.”
“It’s a huge statement for the club going forward. To bring in a player of his quality on a permanent transfer speaks volumes of where this football club is going, how ambitious we are and where we intend to go,” added Edwards.
Nakamba made 68 appearances in all competitions for Villa. A likeable member of the Villa squad, who ultimately didn’t let us down, as a holding midfielder. Ultimately though, he perhaps didn’t have the technique and all-round game to play in Unai Emery’s system.
