Anyone thinking West Ham’s approach to the summer transfer window has seemed somewhat scattergun may have just been proved right.
The window has been like groundhog day for West Ham fans so far.
It officially opened for domestic deals on June 15th – and for all transfers from July 1st – but the Hammers are yet to make a single signing for their first team.

But the true extent of the club’s scattergun approach has been revealed in a new report quoting a source inside the club.

Hugh Southon claims he was told of a surprise spike in official moves today. Three of the six are confirmed as Man United’s Scott McTominay, Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse and Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher.
And Southon says West Ham will simply sign the first three players for whom they have bids accepted.
“The surprising statement to come out of our contact this morning was that we have six offers in at the moment and will take the first three on whom we have agreements,” Southon said on Claret and Hugh.
“There’s either a hint of desperation there or the Irons are sending a message to clubs to get their fingers out and accept our offers or miss out.”
At this stage I think most fans are past caring whether there is a grand transfer plan. All the evidence in the window thus far shows there certainly is not. And if there has been it hasn’t worked.
So it has clearly been necessary to resort to getting the scattergun out like the bad old days of Manuel Pellegrini and Mario Husillos.
Let’s hope it is just teething problems as a result of Moyes being in the last year of his contract and Tim Steidten being new in the job.
And that by this time next year we’ll have an efficient, well-oiled transfer machine in place with everyone knowing their jobs.
