Kamarai Swyer
West H am have announced that young Hammers winger Kamarai Swyer has signed a new two-year contract.
Twenty-year-old Swyer, who featured in four matchday squads and made his senior debut during our victorious UEFA Europa Conference League campaign last term, has put pen to paper on a deal until the summer of 2025.
With the Club since the age of eight, Swyer graduated from the Academy of Football to sign his first professional contract in December 2020 and made his first-team debut against FCSB in a 3-0 Conference League Group B victory in Romania in November last year.
Having had a taste of first-team football across this summer’s pre-season tour to Australia, too, Swyer will hope to continue his progress and push for more first-team action as his career develops.
On signing the contract at Rush Green, Swyer said: “It’s immense pride really, having my family with me as well for this is really important. It is such a big moment for me and makes me feel that I have done well over the past two years to get this reward. “It’s a great feeling to sign that contract and gives me a lot of confidence for the future. But it makes me want to go on and chase the next one too.”
Two weeks ago West Ham announced that Hammers midfielder Freddie Potts has signed a new three-year contract.
The 19-year-old, who was part of the Hammers squad which won the UEFA Europa Conference League in June, has put pen to paper on a deal until the summer of 2026.
Barking-born Potts joined the Club at the age of six, graduated from the Academy of Football and signed his first professional contract in June 2021 and made his first-team debut in the UEFA Europa League in December of the same year.
Last season, he was in Moyes’ matchday squad on eight occasions in the Conference League, including the final against ACF Fiorentina, and made substitute appearances in the group-stage victory at FCSB and round of 16 second-leg win over AEK Larnaca. Potts’ ambition now is to break into the Hammers’ Premier League squad, as he explained when speaking about his new contract on the Club’s pre-season tour to Perth in Australia.
“It’s a really good feeling to sign a new three-year contract,” said the teenager. “It’s another positive step forward for me in my career. I’ve been working towards this for a while and feel my performances for the 21s last season and being in and around the first team have helped me get to this point.
I’m just really excited to see how it all pans out for me over the coming years. I feel I will get opportunities. The talent in the squad is there for all to see, but being around this group will only benefit me. I think this year is an important one for me in my career.”
Earlier this month young Hammer Finlay Herrick penned professional terms with the Club.
The talented stopper was an important part of the U18s squad that won the FA Youth Cup and the U18 Premier League South in 2022/23 and as such was recently named in the England U17s squad for the 2023 UEFA European Under-17 Championships Herrick stated: “I’ve been around West Ham since I was six years old and after first playing here, I have never played anywhere else.I remember getting a picture with Jussi Jääskeläinen on my first day at Chadwell Heath and that’s when I thought: ‘wow, this is what I want to do.
Eleven years after first training at Chadwell Heath, I have signed my pro-deal with West Ham United. It is all a bit surreal, really. It’s amazing.”
In signing his contract, Herrick joins teammates Mason Terry, Ryan Battrum, Billy Bates and Sean Tarima in signing professional terms ahead of the 2023/24 season.
Fellow youngsters Callum Marshall, Ollie Scarles, Gideon Kodua and Lewis Orford have all also signed professional contracts in recent months with West Ham United.
