West Ham are having a summer transfer window to forget. And it may well be one they severely regret if they go into the season insufficiently bolstered following the departure of captain and star player Declan Rice.
Replacing Rice was always going to be immensely difficult for the Hammers.
But nobody could have anticipated West Ham would struggle this ridiculously badly to bring in players.
Not even the most cynical of West Ham fans.
Replacing Rice is the clear priority and the Hammers want two midfielders to fill that void according to David Moyes and David Sullivan.

One of the players said to be a prime target for West Ham this summer was Valencia’s Yunus Musah.

Earlier this month Plaza Deportiva, claimed Musah was high on West Ham’s agenda for the summer window.
Fulham were also said to be interested in the USA midfielder.
West Ham have seen bids rejected for other midfield targets including Conor Gallagher, James Ward-Prowse and Joao Palhinha.
And talks over Scott McTominay ended abruptly when Man United revealed they wanted £45m for Moyes’ fellow Scot.
Now the window goes from bad to worse as yet another Rice replacement target snubs West Ham after a Musah decision.
Latest in long line of snubs as West Ham woes continue
It has been confirmed overnight that Musah will join AC Milan after rejecting West Ham and Fulham.
The Athletic confirm Musah is close to joining Milan from Valencia for €20m (£17m) after the 20-year-old made it clear that he only wanted the Rossoneri.
Musah has an Italian passport, which is key for Milan as he would not take up Milan’s last remaining non-EU registration slot for next season.
Where West Ham go from here is anyone’s guess.
The Hammers need at least one new central midfielder to come straight into the starting XI.
A new centre-back and left-back are key priorities too.
West Ham now have 32 days until the window shuts. The clock is very much ticking and the targets are dwindling.
