Italian forward Scamacca will soon be unveiled as Atalanta’s record signing at £27m including easily achievable add-ons. West Ham have included a 10 per cent sell on clause too.
The first instalment of that money will likely be around £6-7m. That will be added to the initial £33.3m payment from Arsenal for Rice.
It must be remembered – as pointed out on Hammers News previously – that while the combined £40m may not sound a huge amount, West Ham will only be putting small initial payments down – as is the norm in standard transfers – for the £20-40m players they will be targeting.
The rest of the payments – in a normal transfer – will be spread across the length of the contract.

So the first tranche of money from Arsenal and Atalanta for Rice and Scamacca opens the door to multiple potential signings for West Ham.
As a crude illustration, West Ham now essentially have the funds to commit to signing five £30m players from those sales alone.
That’s without any extra money being put in by majority owner David Sullivan and Czech billionaire co-owner Daniel Kretinsky.
Judging by the wretched performance and paper thin squad over in Germany – high quality new arrivals are needed as soon as possible.
Encouragingly it seems midfield destroyer Edson Alvarez could well break West Ham’s transfer duck in the coming days.
A player of his ilk is sorely needed. A robust, tenacious, disciplined defensive midfielder and leader who offers great aerial prowess in both boxes.
If the Hammers can get a rumoured double deal for Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay done too then things could really start to take shape.
