West Ham are reportedly considering a move for Chelsea striker Armando Broja, as David Moyes eyes a replacement for Gianluca Scamacca.
Scamacca is expected to sign for Atalanta for a fee in the region of £27m. He has made just 27 appearances for the Hammers in all competitions. He cost them £30.5m last summer.
He found goals hard to come by, too, netting just eight times as he struggled for consistency in his first – and now only – year with West Ham.
Michail Antonio has also been linked with a departure from the London stadium. Therefore, Moyes may well be forced to bring in a new striker this summer. The manager has plenty of money to spend, too, especially after the sale of Declan Rice to Arsenal for £105m.
Now, according to the Guardian, West Ham are considering a move for Broja. The 21-year-old is rated highly but missed the majority of last season with a knee injury.
The Albania international spent the 2021/22 season on loan with Southampton, where he netted nine goals in 38 appearances.
Chelsea have signed two forwards this summer: Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson. The Guardian claim that Broja’s future could depend on whether the Blues sign another striker before the summer transfer window closes.
The report notes Juventus are offering Dusan Vlahovic as part of a deal that would see Romelu Lukaku return to the Serie A. Mauricio Pochettino isn’t convinced about adding Vlahovic to his squad, though.
With that in mind, Broja is more likely to remain at Stamford Bridge than leave, unless West Ham table a significant offer for his services.
Transfermarkt value the striker at approximately £28m, so the Hammers would most likely have to make a bid in excess of that amount to have any chance of getting a deal done. It will be interesting to see if they make a concrete offer for Broja in the next few days.
Meanwhile, Moyes is also looking to bring in a new midfielder to replace Rice.
Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse is one player who has been linked with a move to the Hammers, but they are facing stiff competition from Tottenham for his signature.
A more likely signing for West Ham could be Ajax’s Edson Alvarez. West Ham have reportedly offered £30m for the Mexico international.
They will need to pay between £35m and £40m to sign Alvarez, however, who has already agreed personal terms with the Hammers.
West Ham are yet to make a signing this summer, but that looks set to change in the near future. Whether or not they can convince Chelsea to sell Broja, though, remains to be seen.
