Liverpool have made a surprise £16m move for Stuttgart’s 30-year-old midfielder Wataru Endo and have revived interest in Bayern Munich‘s Ryan Gravenberch.
Endo, the combative Japan captain, is well known to Liverpool sporting director Jorge Schmadtke and can also play at centre-back. He is due on Merseyside for a medical.
Gravenberch, 21, is open to leaving as he wants to play more regularly. Bayern have so far resisted selling but they are overloaded with midfielders and are under pressure to recoup funds after Harry Kane‘s £100m signing.
Liverpool have also asked about Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat plus Cheick Doucoure of Crystal Palace as they consider midfield targets after failing to sign either Moises Caicedo or Romeo Lavia.
Endo has less than a year remaining on his Stuttgart contract. He has made 133 appearances for Stuttgart since he joined the club, initially on loan, from Sint Truiden.

Gravenberch joined Bayern from Ajax last year on a five-year contract, but only made three Bundesliga starts last season and could now depart.
Liverpool have had to look to alternative options after failing to sign Caicedo or Lavia.
Jurgen Klopp’s side had a bid of £111million accepted for Caicedo, but the midfielder elected to join Chelsea from Brighton instead.
Liverpool also looked to bring in Lavia from Southampton but the talented youngster is also poised to join Chelsea instead.
Klopp needed to make purchases in midfield after Fabinho joined Al-Ittihad and Jordan Henderson signed for Al-Ettifaq.
Morocco’s World Cup star Amrabat is also the subject of interest from Manchester United, who are prioritising the signing of a midfielder after the £72m addition of striker Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta.
Doucoure meanwhile has played 36 times for Palace since joining from Lens last year.
Liverpool have brought in two creative players this summer in Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai but are in need of a defensive midfielder, with Endo set to help their cause in that regard.
