Tottenham target Elye Wahi joins Lens from Montpellier
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur target Elye Wahi has joined Lens from French side Montpellier despite being linked to a number of high-profile clubs.
The much-anticipated move of Elye Wahi, the 20-year-old striking sensation from Montpellier, had been an enticing saga for Spurs faithful. However, the narrative has taken a twist as RC Lens emerges as the destination for the young prodigy.
Despite fervent interest from a number of clubs, including Spurs, the French outfit managed to clinch the deal for the promising striker. It is a rather surprising decision considering he could have bagged a high-profile move.
The prospect of Elye Wahi donning the Lilywhite jersey was tantalizing, promising an infusion of youthful energy into the team’s attacking ranks. However, the elation was accompanied by apprehension, knowing that other Premier League giants, including local rivals Chelsea, were also vying for Wahi’s services.
Tottenham even started being linked with other strikers, most notably Gift Orban. The Gent striker was supposed to be the North London club’s preferred target and the links to Elye Wahi slowly started fizzling out.
Tottenham seem to be looking at a young striker with high potential to replace Kane in the long run. This kind of approach might mean they might have to spend less money on the player and the rewards would be humongous.
Wahi would perfectly embody this philosophy. So would Gift Orban. Postecoglou has a reputation for trusting young players. Let’s not forget that we have an in-house solution in Dane Scarlett.
The possibility of regular game time might have been what made Wahi join a club like Lens. He would be playing in a league that he is familiar with and could develop his game and move to the next level.
