Alasdair Gold confirms Tottenham Hotspur will listen to offers for Djed Spence
Speaking in his latest YouTube video, Tottenham Hotspur correspondent Alasdair Gold has confirmed that the club will listen to offers for Djed Spence as Ange Postecoglou does not rate him at all.
Spence’s journey with Tottenham commenced at the dawn of the previous season, accompanied by a significant £20 million fee, add-ons included. This substantial investment was a testament to the potential Spence carried within him.
Despite harbouring a trove of abilities, the young right-back found his path blocked, his talents constrained by the scarcity of opportunities. He has failed to convince two managers, Antonio Conte and Postecoglou.
A flashback to Spence’s signing reveals an interesting facet of his journey. The transfer, orchestrated under the stewardship of former manager Antonio Conte, carried the fingerprints of a club decision rather than a personal preference.
Conte, in a candid admission, laid bare the genesis of Spence’s acquisition. It was a decision born not out of the manager’s innate inclinations, but a calculated step in Tottenham’s broader strategy.
Now, even though Conte is gone, Postecoglou has not liked the look of the youngster and the club are actively looking to shift him out. Here is what Alasdair Gold had to say about the situation.
“Djed Spence, Spurs will listen to any offers for Spence. He’s absolutely failed to impress Postecoglou. He’s not going to play this season unless there are injuries. The only interest thus far has come from the Championship for Djed. I guess it’s up to him whether he takes a step down to the league below. I think Spurs have to accept a loan because I don’t think they’re going to get a fee anywhere near what they paid for him right now”
When Djed Spence was signed last summer, Tottenham already had Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty. The signing of Pedro Porro in the throes of a winter transfer window further muddied the waters for Spence. With Porro’s arrival, the narrow path to first-team action became a treacherous tightrope to navigate.
Spence left on loan to Rennes for the second half of the season and it is increasingly looking like he has to do that again, now. Tottenham might not want to sell him permanently just yet, in case he comes good.
