Barcelona loan offer for Giovani Lo Celso rejected by Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham have rejected an offer from Barcelona to take Giovani Lo Celso on loan for the remainder of the 2023/24 term, according to Spanish outlet Sport.
The Blaugrana are interested in acquiring the services of the midfielder in the ongoing transfer window. However, the La Liga outfit’s financial constraints limit their spending.
But Spurs are not keen on letting the Argentina international leave on a temporary move and would instead consider a permanent departure. As a result, the Catalan side have ruled out the signing of the 27-year-old this summer.
Xavi was keen on adding Lo Celso to his ranks. Barcelona’s manager wants to bolster his squad with another midfielder and has Tottenham’s star on his radar. But barring a last-minute change in stance from the North London side, a move for the Argentine looks unlikely.
Spurs signed Lo Celso in the summer of 2019, initially on loan. Subsequently, the midfielder played a key role in his debut campaign at the Lilywhites.
Unfortunately, since then, the Argentine has struggled for regular minutes at Tottenham. In January 2022, he joined Villarreal on loan and continued at the Yellow Submarine in the 2022/23 term as well.
But during the recent pre-season, Lo Celso put in some encouraging displays and found the back of the net a few times. However, the midfielder did not feature in the first two matches of the season for Ange Postecoglou.
James Maddison has shone in the middle of the park for the North London side. Yves Bissouma also seems to have found his feet under the Australian manager.
