According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Liverpool are competing with Tottenham Hotspur to secure the signing of Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie in the current transfer window.
Tottenham have been prioritizing defensive signings this summer after experiencing issues at the back last season, and they have already acquired Micky van de Ven from VfL Wolfsburg.
While they have been linked with several defenders, including Edmond Tapsoba and Clement Lenglet, Hincapie has emerged as a potential target for the club. Liverpool have also entered the race to sign the Leverkusen star.
Ben Jacobs has revealed that Tottenham conducted background research on the defender but currently doesn’t seem to have immediate plans to sign him in this transfer window.

However, if their efforts to secure their targets are unsuccessful, they might consider pursuing the signing of the Bayer Leverkusen player in the coming days to strengthen their defensive options.
Liverpool have been reportedly considering the prospect of acquiring a new defender to serve as a future replacement for Virgil van Dijk.
Various names have surfaced as potential targets in recent months, with Hincapie now appearing as a significant option.
The 21-year-old centre-back, who is valued at £30 million, is highly regarded for his talent and potential.
Consequently, he could prove to be a smart signing for either Liverpool or Tottenham should either club decide to pursue him in the current transfer window.
