Tottenham Hotspur consider Hugo Lloris contract termination
Tottenham Hotspur are considering terminating the contract of veteran shot-stopper Hugo Lloris this summer, according to The Times (Subscription Required).
Spurs are thinking about letting the French national leave as a free agent and find a new club in the ongoing transfer window. It remains to be seen what the future will hold for him.
The 36-year-old seemed to be close to a move to Lazio recently. However, the proposed switch to the Serie A outfit has now collapsed and the goalkeeper is still associated with the North London side for now.
As things stand, Guglielmo Vicario is the new number one at Tottenham. The Italian was signed by the Lilywhites this summer from Empoli. In Serie A, the 26-year-old enjoyed some brilliant years before moving to England.
Lloris has been a loyal servant at Spurs for over a decade now. The veteran shot-stopper signed for the North London side in the summer of 2012 from Olympique Lyon and was our first choice in between the sticks up until the start of the current campaign.
The French national has been a consistent performer for Tottenham over the years. However, in recent seasons, the goalkeeper’s age seems to have caught up to him.
In the 2022/23 term, Lloris was the go-to player for Antonio Conte and the other managers. Unfortunately, the shot-stopper did not put his best foot forward last season and made a number of errors.
Now, the French national is no longer our captain, with Son Heung-min taking the armband. Therefore, it arguably looks like the right time to part ways with the veteran goalkeeper.

Lloris’ time at Spurs will be remembered for the longevity of the 2018 World Cup winner. While it is unfortunate that the French national was not able to win a trophy at the club, he will still go down as one of the greats at the North London side.
