Enzo Fernandez won the man of the match award and was Chelsea’s highest rated player according to WhoScored in the win over Brighton today, notching a 7.8 out of 10 rating on the stats site.
Of course the fact that he scored two goals makes the biggest difference, but overall we were pleased with how he played in a difficult situation.
The moment that Gallagher was sent off just before half time the whole dynamic of the game changed, and Enzo’s role became all about controlling the ball and the game as much as possible.
In the end, despite having such a long time to break through, Brighton weren’t able to create many clear cut chances, and a lot of credit for that has to go to our midfield, and Enzo in particular.
We needed some leadership and calm in the middle today, and Enzo provided that, as well as the crucial goals to win it. That’s what we needed to see today, and we need to carry it on in both of our games next week.
