Chelsea were 2-0 up and looking good, before a goal conceded and a silly red card for Conor Gallagher ended up throwing the game into chaos.
The commentary on the game on Optus Sport had Efan Ekoku on duty, and he summed up the Blues’ problems nicely in the wake of the red.
“Chelsea have a lack of discipline and lack of maturity,” Ekoku said (we actually spent most of the first half thinking it was Nigel Pearson, we’ll confess.
Efan Ekoku on commentary: “Chelsea have a lack of discipline and lack of maturity.”
It’s glaringly obvious.

It’s absolutely true, and the fact that we showed some spirit and heart to get a win shouldn’t disguise the fact that a total lack of those things put us in the hole to begin with.
It’s hard to know who to blame really. The owners and their transfer advisors have built an incredibly young team which lacks any experience, and it’s no surprise to see that has created an ill disciplined and immature group.
It’s without question Mauricio Pochettino’s job to give those qualities to them as quickly as possible, but there’s only so much he can do with a group of teenagers with precious few top level games to their name in some cases. Gallagher can have no such excuses, and nor can Reece James who got a red in our last game, however.
