One of Chelsea’s board members has been named as the ‘most powerful individual figure’ at the club right now.
That is according to one respected journalist this week.
CBS journalist Ben Jacobs has put his latest exclusive and extensive Chelsea column out on SPTC this week, and in it he covers a large amount about the club’s board setup.
Jacobs, speaking about the plans for Chelsea to expand the multi-club network, hones in on sporting director Laurence Stewart, who joined Chelsea quite recently and has seemingly largely taken over the recruitment alongside Paul Winstanley, his co-sporting director.
But neither of them are the most powerful person at the club right now, Jacobs says that title belongs to owner Behdad Eghbali, who has been spotted at Stamford Bridge a lot lately and seems to be the head figure of the board right now, rather than Todd Boehly.

Explaining the plans for the multi-club model, Jacobs says: “Behdad Eghbali has been heavily involved as well, and remains the most powerful individual figure at the club – as you’d expect from someone representing the majority owner – but Laurence Stewart is highly rated and respected, in and outside of Chelsea, and is key to the entire project – both on the Chelsea and multi-club side.”
It sounds like Stewart is a great capture for the club and they have already had some pretty good success stories with some of the players they have signed so far.
