Mauricio Pochettino’s post match press conference last night was very calm, when some fans would have wanted dramatic action and fury from the coach after such an embarrassing showing.
There was certainly plenty of anger in the fan base, and they wanted the coach to come out and say just how unacceptable our performance was. Instead he compared it favourably to the loss against Newcastle a fortnight ago.
He obsessed over the fact that we had played with ten men for an hour against Brighton, as though that explained the total lack of effort and energy for the second game in the last 3.
Then came the usual excuses – the injured players etc. He said they weren’t excuses, but why else bring them up?
To be fair, we don’t mind him being calm and collected in these circumstances, and we don’t need passion for the sake of passion. But unless his calculated takes are followed up with action, it’s all rather frustrating.
