Chelsea legend Eden Hazard has hailed Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne as “the best player in the world.”
Asked for his thoughts on whether Belgium can win the European Championships, Hazard said that his country will be in contention, especially with De Bruyne in the team:
“I think they have a great chance, they have the best player in the world, so let’s see. To win something, sometimes, you need a bit of luck with injuries and this and that, so they have great chance, they are good.”
“He’s the captain, to have him in the team is a bonus. He can make everything, every pass, he can see everything quicker than anyone, faster than anyone, that’s why he’s special.”
“I think everyone saw it for the last three years, I don’t even need to say it that he’s special, especially in [the] Premier League, he shows to the world his class.”
Hazard’s comments are not a surprise
Having spent many years playing together for Belgium, the former Chelsea and Real Madrid winger’s admiration for De Bruyne is not in doubt.
Whether the midfielder is actually the best player in world football, that is up for debate. The likes of Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jnr may have a thing or two to say about that!
City will be keen to keep hold of De Bruyne
The 32-year-old is closing in on the final twelve months of his contract at the Etihad Stadium and it is believed that there have been no negotiations about an extension.
De Bruyne raised alarm bells earlier this month when he registered an interest in moving to Saudi Arabia but there is a general feeling that the Belgian international would prefer to stay with the Cityzens if he has a choice.
