Manchester City target Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has revealed that he will make a decision on his future after the European Championships.
The Napoli winger is currently with the Georgia squad at the tournament in Germany and, when asked about transfer rumours, he replied:
“I’m only focused on the national team. After the European Championships, I will decide my future. Now I don’t think about it, I just want to give everything I have on the pitch to help my national team. I don’t think about what they say, I’m 100% focused only on Georgia.”
Both Kvaratskhelia’s agent and father have publicly stated that the player should leave Napoli but the Serie A side have put out a statement to say that they intend to keep hold of him.
City are one of six Premier League clubs who are interested in the forward
TBR Football reported on Monday that the Cityzens, Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle, Manchester United and Liverpool are all keeping close tabs on Kvaratskhelia’s situation.
The 23-year-old is one of the most promising young players in Europe and, if he does become available this summer, there will be a scramble for his signature.
Napoli are playing hardball with Kvaratskhelia
As mentioned, the Georgian international’s club are not expected to let him leave without a fight. President Aurelio De Laurentiis is notoriously difficult to deal with and he appears set on keeping the player for at least another year.
Napoli have tabled a contract extension in order to persuade Kvaratskhelia to stay in Italy but, based on his remarks, it looks like we won’t have to wait too long to find out whether he will press for a transfer.
His asking price is expected to be at least €100m (£85m) so City would have to pay a substantial sum to secure his signature.
