Ex-Arsenal and Chelsea player Emmanuel Petit has paid tribute to Manchester City midfielder Rodri following his performances for Spain at the European Championships.
The 28-year-old has played a key role in helping his country reach the final of the tournament and speaking to talkSPORT (quotes via ManchesterCity.news), Petit said he is a huge admirer of the Spaniard’s abilities:
“He’s a beautiful player with great technical abilities and the vision as well. The tempo in terms of movement is great between the lines right behind the striker. His connection as well is very good with the strikers.”
Rodri has started all but one game at the Euros, having been suspended for the final group game against Albania.
He has played 476 minutes for his country in total, having aided their passage to the final by defeating European heavyweights Germany and Spain on the way.
It’s been a phenomenal 12 months for Rodri
The midfielder has not only excelled at international level, but also for his club too. Ever since he scored the winning goal in the Champions League final last season, he hasn’t really put a foot wrong.
Prior to the defeat to rivals Manchester United in the FA Cup final back in May, Rodri had gone 74 games in all competitions unbeaten when playing for City.
City will have a Euro 2024 winner in their squad
After Spain knocked out France on Tuesday night, it means that the Cityzens have representatives in all the squads remaining in the tournament.
Nathan Ake’s The Netherlands will take on England this evening, with the defender going up against his club teammates Kyle Walker, John Stones and Phil Foden.
All of City’s Euro 2024 players will then be rested following the conclusion of the competition next Sunday, but City’s pre-season will start very shortly. The club have confirmed the first training will take place on Monday.
