Manchester City have registered their interest in Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, according to TBR Football.
The website claims that the Premier League champions have “enquired” about the Ukrainian, who has been capped 13 times by his country.
Lunin has less than a year left on his contract at Real but, until recently, it was assumed that he would stay at the Bernabeu and sign an extension.
However, the 25-year-old has still not pen to paper on a new deal, and it is now looking like he could leave Spain this summer.
A replacement for Ederson may be needed
With the Brazilian international having been heavily linked with a switch to Saudi Arabia, it is not a complete surprise that the Cityzens have been scouring the market for a new keeper.
As Stefan Ortega has committed his future to the club, it’s expected that, if Ederson does depart, the German will become No.1. Lunin could, therefore, be brought in as his backup.
City are not the only Premier League club pursuing Lunin
TBR report that Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool have also contacted Real Madrid to be kept informed of the Ukrainian international’s situation.
The Gunners are looking to replace Aaron Ramsdale, but there is a feeling that they would prefer to sign Espanyol’s Joan Garcia. Liverpool, meanwhile, would only look to snap up Lunin if Caoimhin Kelleher is sold. However, no team has been prepared to match the Irish shot-stopper’s £25m asking price so far.
Chelsea are likely to pose the biggest threat. Their keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga spent last season on loan at Real and there are suggestions that Lunin could be offered as part of a swap deal. We shall have to wait and see who wins the race for his signature.
