Manchester City target Dani Olmo has effectively urged clubs to trigger the release clause in his contract before it expires on July 20th.
The attacking midfielder can be signed for €60m (£50.4m) until next Saturday and, when asked about his future plans, Olmo was pretty clear in saying that he is open to moving clubs:
“My people know what I want to do… I have too much to do with the Euros to be thinking about other things. I have a contract with Leipzig and we have a very good relationship. There will be no problem.”
“My 60 million clause until July 20? You know what you have to do. If not, you’ll have to fight a little later.”
Are City interested in signing Olmo?
There are conflicting rumours about whether the Premier League champions are actively pursuing the 26-year-old’s signature. Reports in the German press are adamant that the Cityzens are the likeliest team to pay the clause.
However, trusted sources in the UK say that Olmo will not be heading to the Etihad this summer. That doesn’t necessarily mean he won’t be moving to the Premier League.
Which other clubs are pursuing the midfielder?
Chelsea have been mentioned as a potential suitor but respected journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the Blues haven’t been in contact with Olmo’s representatives.
The likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Barcelona have also been credited with an interest in the Spanish international.
Due to the limited time left on the clause, it does look like there will be a scramble to snap up Olmo next week. As he says, he is currently focused on the Euros (his side face England in the final on Sunday night), but after that, it seems he will be holding discussions with various clubs. Whether one of them will be City, it remains to be seen.
