Manchester City transfer target Adam Wharton is “set to stay” at Crystal Palace this summer, according to The Sun.
The Eagles beat the likes of Brighton, Everton, Liverpool, Manchester United, Newcastle and West Ham when they signed him from Blackburn Rovers for £18m during the January transfer window.
However, Wharton’s performances in the second half of last campaign attracted the attention of the Cityzens, as well as Real Madrid and Barcelona.
The Sun claim that despite the “massive interest” being shown in the 20-year-old, he is expected to remain at Selhurst Park for the start of next season.
Why are City interested in Wharton?
The midfielder has outstanding technical ability and he can pick out a pass; two traits that are guaranteed to attract the interest of manager Pep Guardiola.
Whether Wharton is ready to make the step up to elite level, though, it is up for debate, and the player is probably wise to stay where is for now, so he can continue his development.
The Premier League champions will undoubtedly be keeping very close tabs on how he progresses over the coming months.
Are City targeting any other players this summer?
Reports in the German and Italian press have been linking the Manchester club with a bid for RB Leipzig’s Dani Olmo. The Spanish international has a release clause worth €60m (£50m) in his contract that expires at the end of this week.
Olmo has been tipped as a replacement for Kevin De Bruyne. The Belgian international has less than a year left on his contract and clubs in Saudi Arabia and the United States have been credited with an interest.
There are, though, questions about the level of interest that City have in Olmo, with the likes of journalist Fabrizio Romano having played down a potential bid.
