Fenerbahce are interested in signing Manchester City midfielder Mateo Kovacic, according to Takvim (via Turkish-Football.com).
The Yellow Canaries have recently appointed former Chelsea and Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho as their new head coach and they have some ambitious plans for reinforcing their squad.
The Turksih Super Lig side have already brought in former Newcastle winger Allan Saint-Maximin on loan from Al-Ahli and they have also signed ex-Leicester centre-back Caglar Soyuncu from Atletico Madrid.
How serious their interest is in Kovacic, it remains to be seen, but Takvim claim that the Croatian international is on their list of targets.
Would City consider selling Kovacic?
Kovacic had a decent first season following his £25m transfer from Chelsea. The 30-year-old started 6 of their first 8 league games but he then struggled to regain his place in the starting eleven until later on in the campaign.
Manager Pep Guardiola did rely heavily on him during the run-in and many feel that the midfielder played an influential role in helping the Cityzens win their fourth consecutive Premier League title.
Other midfielders are likelier to leave the Etihad
It is believed that the Premier League champions are actively looking to offload Kalvin Phillips on a permanent basis. There has reportedly been interest from teams in Italy but no transfer appears to be imminent so the England international is expected to play a full part in pre-season.
The future of Matheus Nunes is also in doubt. Like Kovacic, the Portuguese international arrived last summer but he has struggled to live up to his £53m price tag.
Reports suggest that City are already open to letting him go if they receive a good enough offer. Considering how much they paid for him, though, it’s unlikely that they will get much of a return on their investment.
