Ex-Manchester City goalkeeper David James believes Oscar Bobb has already made his case for starting against Chelsea on the opening day of the Premier League season.
The 21-year-old was impressive once again in the 3-2 friendly defeat versus AC Milan at the weekend. Asked whether any of the players have done enough to guarantee themselves a start at Stamford Bridge next month, James said:
“I think, Oscar Bobb yes. Simply because, less so in the second half because perhaps that relationship wasn’t there but what he’s done in 120 minutes has been the best of any City player.”
“He is saying to Pep [Guardiola], I am ready, trust in me, which I think Pep does anyway.”
The City winger caught the eye again
After contributing to all three goals in City’s last friendly against Celtic, the Norwegian international put in another good display with an outstanding assist versus Milan.
Bobb could have gotten on the scoresheet himself too with a magnificent solo attempt, while he would have added to his assist total if Erling Haaland and James McAtee had converted their chances.
City’s next friendly is against Barcelona before they face Chelsea to complete their pre-season tour of the United States on Saturday.
Bobb has been attracting interest
Both Newcastle and Chelsea have been mentioned as potential suitors for the player in recent weeks, with there being suggestions that he could leave the Etihad in order to seek first-team football.
Some fans fear a repeat of what happened with Cole Palmer last year when the Cityzens opted to sell the winger for £42.5m. He went on to score 25 goals and 15 assists in all competitions.
Manager Pep Guardiola has already said that Bobb is part of his plans but it remains to be seen how much game time he will get
