Paris Saint-Germain are expected to step up their efforts to sign Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez “next week”, according to ESPN Argentina reporter Jorge Baravalle (via CityXtra).
The journalist claims that interest from PSG is “growing stronger” and the Ligue One champions are likely to make contact with City to discuss a potential transfer.
Alvarez has been heavily linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium in recent weeks, with the player having publicly spoken about his lack of minutes in important fixtures.
His availability has piqued the interest of several clubs, including Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, Arsenal and PSG.
Alvarez has played down suggestions that he is unhappy
After going public about the fact that he is considering his future at City, the striker then rowed back on those comments slightly by saying:
“I never said anything bad. I just said that I was going to think about it like I do every season to make an analysis of what happened last season, a projection of what may come. I always say that I am comfortable and happy at City, which is a great club. So I didn’t say anything bad.”
City have already placed a price tag on the player
It has been reported that, if a team does make a formal enquiry, the Cityzens will demand at least €70m (£59m) upfront and another €20m (£17m) in add-ons.
Some fans may argue that the club are undervaluing Alvarez, considering that he is still only 24 years of age, as well as being a proven goalscorer at the highest level.
However, City are unlikely to sell to another Premier League team (despite the interest from Chelsea and Arsenal) so there is only a limited pool of teams are are able to sign him. If PSG come up with the money, the Argentinian international could well leave.
