Manchester City‘s dire run of form continued on Tuesday night in the Champions League – and the not-so-encouraging stats continue to follow.
Pep Guardiola‘s side had seemed set to return to winning way after a five-games losing streak as they led Dutch side Feyenoord 3-0 at the Etihad with just 15 minutes remaining.
The win would not only have seen them bounce back from a staggered 4-0 thrashing by Tottenham in the Premier League at the weekend, but also get back to winning ways in Europe having lost 4-1 against Sporting Lisbon last time out.
But yet another collapse took place in City’s latest blow, with Dutch visitors netting three goals in the last 15 minutes of the game to come away with a point.
That will have rocked City going into Sunday’s crunch game against Premier League leaders Liverpool at Anfield, with Arne Slot‘s men set to go 11 points clear of their rivals if they can emerge victorious.
But, focusing on Tuesday, a number of stats came out of the game as the former Treble winners set unwanted Champions League history in slipping to 15th in the league table.
Some damning stats have outlined Manchester City’s struggles after their latest collapse
City blew a 3-0 lead at home to Feyenoord with just 15 minutes remaining in the fixture
In doing so, the former winners etched their name in unwanted Champions League history
Via Opta, Guardiola’s men became just the third English side to fail to win a Champions League game in which there had been a three-goal lead, only after Arsenal against Anderlecht in 2014 and Liverpool versus Sevilla in 2017 – both of those games ended 3-3.
And via CBS, City have conceded two or more goals in six consecutive matches in all competition for the first time since May 1963 – 51 years ago – a year that saw them relegated.
Tuesday’s tally took it to 17 goals conceded for the Premier League champions in their last six matches with their defence clearly a cause for concern at present.
That includes the 4-0 defeat by Tottenham at the weekend which saw them concede chances at will, while they also shipped four to Sporting, three on Tuesday and two on three occasions.
Finally – and perhaps the most shockingly – City became the first team in Champions League history to fail to win a game having led by three goals in the 75th minute or later.
City have dropped out of the top eight in the Champions League group stage – a finish needed to avoid a play-off spot in the next round of the competition.
Now 15th, they could drop even lower on Wednesday, having played one more game than half of the teams in the competition.
