Kalvin Phillips’s career might be revived as agents connected to the midfielder have approached UEFA Champions League team Galatasaray, according to a Turkish media outlet.
The Englishman has been with Manchester City since 2022, making 20 appearances and scoring 1 goal last season. However, as the new season approaches, he is not in Pep Guardiola’s plans and might sign with a new club.
During the second half of last season, Phillips was away from Manchester City on loan to West Ham United. The move did not work as the midfielder was not able to bring his form back, leading to an average performance at London Stadium. Fitness has been the prominent issue for the midfielder, leading to several injuries since 2022.
With the Premier League season kicking off soon, many teams are interested in acquiring the midfielder. Manchester City’s squad is packed with sufficient talent, particularly with Rodri excelling in the midfield, so Guardiola has no concerns about letting Phillips go. This could provide him with a fresh start at another club.
Galatasaray, continuously looking for a midfielder, believes the addition of Kalvin Phillips could add significant strength to their team. With the midfielder and the Turkish team are mutually showing interest on each other, we might expect the announcement soon.
The Spanish tactician has given approval for Phillips to leave, setting a price of £35m for interested buyers. Galatasaray are not the only team interested in the 28-year-old, as other Turkish clubs are also eyeing him.
Pep Guardiola has used Phillips in central defence in pre-season in a bid for the player to prove his fitness to interested parties. An amicable exit would be a solution all parties will appreciate and let’s hope that happens this summer.
