Tottenham Hotspur remain busy in the transfer window to try and make a few more signings and bolster the squad before it slams shut on August 30.
Having signed Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth, the north London side have finally landed a pure No.9 who can add much-needed presence up top for Ange Postecoglou’s side. The Englishman’s acquisition also strengthens the club’s offensive unit. While Tottenham continue to monitor the market for signings, there could be a couple of outgoings happening from now on and until the end of the transfer window.
Giovani Lo Celso appears to be a high-profile name expected to depart the Hotspur Way. According to Argentinean outlet TyC Sports, Aston Villa and Real Betis have made offers for Tottenham outcast Giovani Lo Celso.
The Argentina international was not included in the squad for Spurs’ last pre-season friendly against Bayern Munich after returning from his off-season break. The 28-year-old, who was signed permanently by Spurs in a £27.2m deal from Real Betis after impressing on loan, is not part of Ange Postecoglou’s plans.
The Lilywhites won’t be satisfied with a loan for Lo Celso. The player has entered the final year of his contract (Transfermarkt) and the club wants to cash him in this summer. However, as per the aforementioned report, the 2024 Copa America winner is in a dilemma over his future after receiving offers from Real Betis and Aston Villa.
Both the offers are seemingly tempting for Lo Celso. With players like Emiliano Martínez, Emiliano Buendia and Enzo Barrenechea, Aston Villa will have an Argentinean contingent to support Lo Celso in reviving his career if he makes the move. Plus, the Villans are coached by Unai Emery and the Spurs outcast will be familiar with his coaching style and system having worked under him at PSG and Villarreal.
On the other hand, Real Betis are vying for his signature—the club where Lo Celso played his best football under Manuel Pellegrini and became one of the coveted talents in European football. During his time at Benito Villamarin, he had thrived as a goalscoring force in the centre of the park and registered 16 goals and six assists across 45 appearances in all competitions.
