According to a report from Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich is attempting to sell off Leon Goretzka as soon as possible, but the club has not put a price tag on the 29-year-old’s head — at least as of yet. The goal is to convince him to leave Bavaria by the end of the summer transfer window:
Bayern want to offload Goretzka before deadline day and are upping the pressure on him to leave, hence his exclusion from the squad today. Vincent Kompany has other plans in midfield. As of now, there’s no price tag for Goretzka. From the club, it is said that the most important thing is that he leaves. Meanwhile, Goretzka is determined to stay, he has no plans to leave and is holding no talks with other clubs.
From his entourage, it is said that he’s 100% staying at Bayern as things stand. Goretzka is still hoping to get his chance and establish himself under Kompany, will wait for the next few months, and if it becomes clear to him that he definitely has no chance anymore, then he would seriously consider a move in January.
The situation with Goretzka is tough to watch. While it is admirable, the message has been sent — if Bayern Munich is not going to dress him for a DFB-Pokal match where João Palhinha was deemed not fit enough to go 90 minutes, there is likely no time that will be available for the 29-year-old.
As they say, the writing is on the wall…
