There is growing speculation that Leon Goretzka could be on his way out of Bayern Munich before this summer’s transfer window concludes, and he was not in the squad to face SSV Ulm in the first round of the DFB-Pokal. To date, Bayern has signed Hiroki Ito, Michael Olise and João Palhinha in addition to getting Josip Stanišić back from his Bayer Leverkusen loan spell. They have also just said goodbye to the defensive pair of Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs De Ligt, both of whom left Munich for Manchester United in the Premier League.
Both sporting director Christoph Freund and board member for sport Max Eberl promised that it would be a busy summer window for the Rekordmeister, but is the only business left to happen Goretzka leaving the club? That is the question that currently looms large for Vincent Kompany in his first season in charge of the club. Right now, that is the most concrete transfer rumor for either inbounds or outbounds as moves for Xavi Simons and Dani Olmo fell through and Jonathan Tah’s proposed move from Bayer Leverkusen is in limbo.
When Vincent Kompany was asked to comment on Goretzka, he remained tight-lipped and said that he speaks with his front office regularly about squad planning. “I clearly communicate my opinion on the players internally with Max and Christoph,” the Belgian manager boldly and clearly stated as per Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg.
His remark comes on the heels of it being announced that both Eberl and Freund would be sitting in alongside the manager during press conferences from here on out to be able to brunt the load of questions that could be asked about transfer dealings and/or squad planning. This is to help decrease the load of questions Kompany will have to field about the subject.
Speaking on the current squad, Eberl feels there is already a strong squad that Kompany has to work with, even though both he and Freund had spoken of a lot of business potentially getting done this summer. “We have an outstanding squad that has created a great symbiosis with Vincent,” he explained.
