There are only a few weeks left in the summer transfer window and it is still unclear what Bayern Munich still plans to do before it closes. Sporting director Christoph Freund and board member for sport Max Eberl had ensured that is would be a busy window of business for the Rekordmeister, but what, exactly, is left to happen?
The club has already signed Hiroki Ito, Michael Olise and João Palhinha in addition to getting Josip Stanišić back from his Bayer Leverkusen loan spell, but they just bid farewell to both Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt. The pair of defenders left to join Manchester United in the Premier League.
Bayern was interested in signing Xavi Simons, Dani Olmo and Jonathan Tah, but all three of the players have fallen through. Simons went back on loan to RB Leipzig, Olmo joined Barcelona, and it is now looking increasingly less likely that Bayern will be able to sign Tah from Leverkusen despite the players desire to leave for Bayern and Vincent Kompany’s desire to have him.
The question remains; what is left for Bayern in the transfer window? Will they try to sign more players? What positions will they be focusing their remaining efforts on? Will there be any big money signings made? Will any other players leave?
The pressing questions are there, but for Kompany, he is fully focused on the start of the season and working with the players that he currently has at his disposal. To help Kompany keep his focus, Bayern is planning on having both Eberl and Freund join the manager during press conferences, as per information from Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg . The idea for this is to help alleviate Kompany of some of the questions that would be asked pertaining to transfers during press conferences.
At Bayern, this is not something that has been done for a long time, but the pair of front office members want to handle all of the transfer questions so that Kompany can focus on the players that he already has and not bother with speculative questions. The window is open until the end of this month, so this setup will ensure Eberl and Freund tackle all of the appropriate questions until then.
