Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is still one of the best players in the world at his position.
However, at 38-years-old, his career lifespan as a footballer is slowly creeping toward its end. How much longer can he be “the man” for both Bayern Munich and the German national team?
We might soon find out per DFB sporting director Rudi Völler.
“There will certainly be a decision regarding Manuel before the next squad list is announced, which will be the week after next. Manuel deserves to have the first say on how things will continue,” Völler said during an appearance on Sport1-Doppelpass (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Neuer’s performances have not dipped as of yet — sure, there are down moments here and there, but by-and-large, he is still one of the most capable goalkeepers in the world. 2026 is not far away, but there is a long way to go to get there.
Neuer will accumulate more wear-and-tear and if it becomes too much, we could see the end for one of the best — if not, the best — goalkeeper of all-time. Certainly, many German national team fans are hoping he will get back on the saddle for one last ride!
