According to a report from Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer probably will not participate in Germany’s upcoming UEFA Nations League matches against Hungary and the Netherlands.
Neuer will — allegedly — let Germany men’s national team coach Julian Nagelsmann know one way or the other whether or not he will continue on with his international career at some point before those games:
Manuel Neuer is unlikely to be involved in the upcoming Nations League games against Hungary (7 September) and the Netherlands (10 September). Neuer is faced with two options: either to withdraw temporarily from the national team without making a final commitment and keep the door open on the 2026 World Cup – or to announce his international retirement. A decision will be communicated before Nagelsmann announces his next squad.
Neuer’s decision will have a trickle-down effect on many players — and within the German national team’s leadership structure. While no longer the captain, Neuer still carries a ton of weight in the locker room.
