After two Bundesliga matches, Bayern Munich stands at 2-0-0, but some fans might not be overly thrilled with how the team has played.
For board member for sport Max Eberl, everything is going to plan.
“When you get two wins from two games then you’re on target. Everything is good. If you’ve won, you’ve done a lot of things right. It’s nice when the coach tries something and tries to be attacking. Freiburg always fly a little bit under the radar, they beat Stuttgart, they run a lot and make practically no mistakes. We beat them and didn’t concede a goal,” Eberl said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
On the surface, Eberl has a point — after all, winning is the primary objective. However, Bayern Munich has not looked overly dangerous, creative, or steady against two inferior opponents. Instead of throttling teams that is has out-classed, Bayern Munich is scraping by with a lack of fluidity on offense and a shaky defense.
Moreover, new boss Vincent Kompany seems to be overthinking his tactics when he has a team with more depth and talent than anyone in Germany. At Burnley, you might have to come up with innovative strategies to take down other lower-tier teams — but at Bayern Munich, sometimes you just have to keep it simple against such squads.
