Thomas Müller has seen it all during his 24-year stay with Bayern Munich: the highs, the lows, and everything in between. What sticks out in his storied career is the last time the Allianz Arena hosted a Champions League final (certain fans deny the existence of this so-called final, records say that 2013 came after 2011).
“I’m not a dreamer, but it’s of course appealing,” the 35-year-old revealed (BR24 as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMia). “I would also want to be in the Champions League final even if it wasn’t in Munich. What happened before the game [in 2012], what happened after the game – that was simply powerful, the way it moved people. I’m a fan of allowing a little bit of emotion, no matter which way it goes.”
Bayern would go on to win all trophies in 2013, beating Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League’s first all-German final and exacted revenge upon Chelsea FC in the Super Cup.
If Bayern somehow make it all the way to the final and win, Müller could make history as part of the first team to win the UCL in their home ground. Only three times has a club reached the final on home soil, with the first being Roma in 1984, but no one has managed to win the trophy at home thus far.
