Joshua Kimmich is tired of talking about it.
The Bayern Munich star has played a variety of positions in his career, including landing back at right-back last season for both club and country after previously establishing himself in central midfield.
Much has been made about where the versatile 29-year-old and new Germany captain is best utilized — and most prefers. But for Kimmich: why not both?
“I see it as a strength that I can play both positions,” Kimmich said from the Germany camp on Tuesday (as captured via @iMiaSanMia). “It has helped me a lot in my career to get to where I am. That’s why I will never close myself off to one position. I hope that we can close this topic soon.”
It seems that right-back is where Julian Nagelsmann will continue to use him for the time being, after a successful run there at EURO 2024. As for Kimmich at Bayern, ‘both’ looks like it could be on the table, even in a single game — as Kompany had Kimmich covering both central and wide areas depending on the phase of play against SC Freiburg last weekend.
Perhaps this topic is not going away any time soon.
