It’s that time of the year again. The 2024 Ballon d’Or is around the corner where players who deserve to win aren’t nominated and those who have nothing to offer except PR are way ahead of everyone else. For Bayern Munich, England striker Harry Kane is among the nominees (as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMia). However, there’s no Jamal Musiala on this list.
Max Eberl was quoted as saying that everyone “at FC Bayern is very surprised that Jamal Musiala is missing from this list”. Musiala was instrumental in Bayern’s and Germany’s runs in the Champions League last season and the Euros respectively.
For context, Martin Odegaard (Arsenal FC), Artem Dovbyk (Dnipro, Girona, and Roma), Hakan Calhanoglu (Inter Milan), and Vitinha (PSG) got in ahead of Musiala. Then again, not surprising from an association who decided to deny Robert Lewandowski the chance to win it and instead gave him an award to pacify the Bayern faithful—it was subsequently scrapped too.
