Manchester City have “already checked” Marc Guehi’s situation at Crystal Palace following the collapse of his move to Newcastle, according to the Daily Mail.
The Eagles refused to sell the former Chelsea defender to the Magpies as they held out for their £75m asking price, but it looks as if the Cityzens are considering a bid for him in a future transfer window.
Supporters on X are sceptical about whether City really need another centre-back, especially as Guehi could cost a very high sum:
We really don’t need him

Aké, Gvardiol, Stones, Dias, Akanji. He’s not needed. I feel Liverpool will sign him next summer.

Guardiola has plenty of centre-halves at his disposal
Manager Pep Guardiola can call upon the likes of Ruben Dias, Manuel Akanji, Nathan Ake, Josko Gvardiol and John Stones so he is not exactly short of options in the centre of defence.
Of course, the situation may change next summer. Stones’ contract will have a year to run at the end of the season, so there could be a case for recruiting a replacement.
Guehi won’t be as expensive for City to sign in the future
The 24-year-old is not expected to sign a new contract with Palace and, with is current deal set to expire in 2026, the Eagles will be forced into offloading him for a lower fee either in January or next summer.
Inevitably, his availability will attract other suitors, and not just Newcastle. Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham have also been credited with an interest in the player.
